Sri Lankan Diaries!! Dambulla!

The last leg of our Sri Lankan road trip- Dambulla!

But before that, time to explore the hidden gem on our journey- Heritance Tea Factory near Nuwara Eliya.

The original wooden factory was damaged by fire during the First World War, so in the mid-1930s a hill was scalped to create a plateau for the new factory, which is a hotel today. The hotel is a marvellous example of engineering. And more than that, they make your visit an experience that you will never forget.

You have an amazing time plucking your own tea leaves, wearing the beautiful Sri Lankan saaree and tea basket on your head. Followed by this is a tea tasting ceremony, where we use a large spoon and noisily slurp the tea in our mouth, to experience different flavors and grades.

We had the most peaceful time spent amongst the green plantation, beautiful weather, energising tea, and people with wonderful smiles 🙂

We continued on our journey to the land of Buddha- Dambulla. A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, has the largest and well preserved collection of Buddha statues and paintings.

Our last stay at the SriLanka was at Amaya lakes, filled with lush green trees and pathways, and a perfect retreat to enjoy seclusion on the banks of lake. And our last holiday night ended with a lovely candle light dinner at the poolside with variety of delicious Sri Lankan cuisines.

Our trip ended with an finger-licking dinner in Colombo at Fort/Old Dutch Hospital area, famous for its restaurant-Ministry of crab.

One of the best journeys ever, Sri Lanka has been one of my personal favourite destinations till date. And I am definitely going to this place whenever i have a chance again.

Sad that the trip has ended, but i have a grand collection of memories with me, and again ready to discover a new destination, in this World-Around me! 🙂
